Do you come to my house?
Absolutely! We understand that pets thrive best in the familiarity of their own home. Our pet sitting services and walks are tailored to cater to their preferences. We come directly to your residence and tend to your pets’ needs on-site. This includes feeding, neighborhood strolls, and adhering to your specific care routine.
What is a Registration Meeting?
In order to get to know both you and you pets better, we schedule an in-person Registration Meeting for all new clients. The Registration Meeting gives us the opportunity to tour your pet’s environment, learn their feeding and exercise routines, review care instructions, and conduct a brief behavior assessment in order to ensure safety and consistency from day one. The Registration Meeting is $30 and includes time for you to ask any questions about our services, scheduling, and expectations. If a physical key in needed in order to access your home, we’ll set up a lockbox during this visit. You’re welcome to provide your own lock box, or you may buy one from us for $30.

How do you access my home when I’m gone?
When it comes to pet care, trust and safety are everything. One common concern for many pet parents is key management—how to give your pet sitter or dog walker access to your home without the stress of handing over a key. At Calico Pet Sitting, Ltd., we use lock boxes, which are a secure, convenient solution that keeps your key accessible while giving you full control and peace of mind. You are welcome to use your own lock box or buy one from us for $30.
Will you take care of my home during pet sitting visits?
Yes! We’ll help maintain the appearance of an occupied home by alternating lights and blinds, and bringing in packages, mail, and newspapers. Additionally, we’ll monitor your thermostat, water a few plants, and give your home a lived-in look.
Are Calico Pet Sitting, Ltd. employees able to give my pet medication?
Yes, we have experience giving many different types of medication to pets, which include: insulin shots, glucose level checks, and subq fluids; administration of pills and tablets, ointments and creams, drops, and sprays. There is no extra charge for us to give medications; however, we may need to book a longer service time to ensure all tasks for the visit are completed.
Will I have the same dog walker or pet sitter every time?
A key advantage of choosing Calico Pet Sitting, Ltd. is the use of employees in our collaborative team approach. This ensures that backup support is readily available in case one of our sitters encounters an emergency, guaranteeing uninterrupted care for your pets. During our in-home Registration Meeting, a person from our team will familiarize themselves with your pet’s needs and care routine. All dog walks and pet sitting visits are allocated based on our employee’s schedules and availability, resulting in multiple team members attending to your pets. This offers the benefit of extra vigilance and care for both your pet and home.
If meeting all team members is important to you, additional 30-minute in-home visits can be arranged at a cost of $30 per session.
If consistency in having the same sitter every time is absolutely crucial, you may want to explore hiring an individual pet sitter. Just ensure they have backup support in case of emergencies.
How do you work with my dog during a pet sitting visit?
Your pet’s comfort and safety are our top priorities. Our sitters follow a thorough checklist to maintain your pet’s routine during each visit. We adhere to the following standards during our dog sitting visits:
Verify gate security before letting dogs outside.
Supervise outdoor playtime.
Prevent dogs from interacting with other dogs during neighborhood walks for their safety.
Clean muddy paws before letting dogs back inside.
Offer fresh water after walks and outdoor play.
Oversee feeding to prevent choking hazards.
Comply with any special dietary requirements.
Utilize double-leashing for at-risk dogs to ensure their safe return.
We understand that each pet is unique and allow them to guide the level of interaction with our team. If your pet is timid, we’ll sit quietly and give them time to become comfortable. We’ll never chase your pet around the house.
Why won’t you watch my cat every other day? She’s self-sufficient.
We truly understand the importance of affordability and recognize that you may be seeking a cost-effective solution for your cat’s care while you’re away. However, our policy requires that cats receive at least one visit every 24 hours to ensure they’re eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and able to move around their territory safely. Cats are sociable creatures and require companionship. They should not be left alone for extended periods without human interaction.
Healthwise, cats need fresh water. Some cats may refuse to drink if the water isn’t fresh, even if they have a fountain or haven’t displayed this behavior before. Cats are also susceptible to kidney infections, and severe conditions can develop rapidly. Our pet sitters are trained to monitor changes in litter box usage and eating habits, which could signal serious illnesses.
We prioritize your cat’s well-being. By choosing our services, you save time on transporting your cat to a kennel, ensure your cat remains in the comfort of its own home, and receive photos and written reports after every visit from our team.
I need to leave town immediately! Can you provide services with short notice?
For existing clients who have previously completed an in-home Registration Meeting, we can typically accommodate short-notice requests, depending on our availability. Naturally, the more notice we receive, the better we can serve you.
If you are a new client, we necessitate a Registration Meeting prior to commencing services. Please contact us at least 3 days before your trip, if at all possible.
Any services scheduled within 72 hours of the service start day will be charged an additional $10 per visit for the first 72 hours of services.
What happens if my pet has an emergency?
All employees are certified in Pet First Aid & CPR. In case of emergencies, we’ll transport your pet to a veterinarian. While we like to use your preferred vet, we may need to visit the nearest 24-hour emergency veterinarian depending on availability or the nature of the emergency.
Can I trust Calico Pet Sitting, Ltd.’s employees?
Absolutely! Our employees undergo a thorough hiring process that includes a nationwide background check to ensure the safety of your pets and your home. Employees go through a multi-step training course that includes Fear Free Techniques and Fear Free Happy Homes principles.
